About the event

  • The departmental event is a smaller, more personal ceremony for our graduates and their families. You will be able to celebrate your accomplishment with your fellow classmates and the English department's faculty. Around 300 English and American Literature & Culture majors participated last year.
  • The event is approximately 90 to 120 minutes long.
  • Each student has his/her name called as s/he walks across the stage. Second majors, minors, honors and awards are also acknowledged.
  • GradImages will provide professional photography services, allowing students to purchase individual photographs of their special moment. More information can be found at the GradImages website
  • We have one faculty and one English alumni speaker. Our faculty speaker is Joseph F. Nagy, PhD. Our alumni speaker is Stacy Burstin, Founder and President, Eevolver Inc. (English, 1991).

With a successful track record of over twenty-years in the visual FX and animation industries, Ms. Burstin has produced and managed creative teams and productions resulting in numerous awards that span over two decades. Stacy served as an Executive Producer at Rhythm & Hues Studios – one of the world's leading producers of quality character animation and visual effects for the entertainment industry, winning awards such as; two Academy Awards for Achievement in Visual Effects, in 2013 for, "Life of Pi", 2008 for "The Golden Compass and Babe," BAFTA award for Special Visual Effects, three Scientific and Technical Academy Awards, and over 50 Clio's.

Ms. Burstin is currently the President and Founder of Eevolver, a creative consulting company for feature film, advertising and special venue films as well as an international co-production company.

  • Most students wear their caps and gowns, but it is not mandatory.
  • The Letters and Science Commencement officially confers degrees with all the formalities of a university commencement event. This event does not.
