  • Hammer Poetry Series: Clayton Eshleman

    Poet and essayist Clayton Eshleman reads from his acclaimed translation of César Vallejo’s Complete Poetry. This is the first complete translation of poetry by the Peruvian poet and includes the groundbreaking collections The Black Heralds, Trilce, Human Poems, and Spain, Take This Cup from Me. Clayton Eshleman’s recent publications of his own work include Reciprocal Distillations, a collection of poems on art and artists, and An Alchemist with One Eye on Fire. His work has been published in over 500 literary magazines and newspapers, and he has given readings at more than 200 universities. He is now Professor Emeritus at Eastern Michigan University.

  • Hammer Poetry Series: Frank Bidart

    Born in Bakersfield, California, Frank Bidart lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts and teaches at Wellesley College. His most recent volumes of poems are Star Dust (2005), Music Like Dirt (a Pulitzer Prize finalist in 2002) and Desire (a finalist for National Book Award and the National Book Critics’ Circle Award in 1997). His other honors include election to the position of Chancellor of the Academy of American Poets, the Academy’s Wallace Stevens Award, the Lila Wallace-Reader’s Digest Award, the Morton Dauwen Zaubel Award, the Shelley Award given by the Poetry Society of America, and the inaugural Bernard F. Connors Prize from The Paris Review (1981).
