Undergraduate Admissions:

 

Admissions requirements were based on two principles,

 

“First, that the best assurance of success in the University is shown by high quality of scholarship in previous work, and second, that the study of certain specified subjects will student both a good preparation for the work of the University and a reasonable freedom in choosing his field of specialization.”

 

Application Process:

 

Applications for undergraduate admissions were to be filed between:

Oct. 1 st and Jul. 15 th Fall Semester

Mar. 1 st and Dec. 15 th Spring Semester

 

(Those who applied earlier received an earlier notification of acceptance)

 

Requirements:

 

Subject A Examination in English

Vaccination against smallpox

B average in required classes

If ineligible based on UC designated high school’s records, then student may be eligible based on SAT score (at least 1000) and three achievement tests (English Composition, Social Studies and Foreign Language, Mathematics and Science).

 

Once at UCLA Students were required:

To take between 12-18 units every semester.

 

Passing Grades: A, B, C, D

Failing Grades: E, F

 

To Receive the Degree of Bachelor of Arts/Science, students would need to complete at least twice as many grade points as units and a minimum of 120 units.

 

Most Popular Letters and Science Majors:

English: 1200 students

Political Science: 958 students

Psychology: 888 students

Pre-professional Emphasis:

Prebusiness Administration: 430 students

Pre-dental: 256 students

Pre-nursing: 140 students
